Paper Province is a world-leading business cluster within the forest based bioeconomy. On behalf of our member companies we strive to strenghten innovation & development, competence provision, cooperation and the international reach of our regional business. Today, Värmland and its provincial capital, the city of Karlstad on the northern shores of Sweden's largest inland water Lake Vänern, are hugely important to Sweden's pulp, paper and packaging industry. About 12,500 employees at 250 companies in the region are involved in producing forestry products, generating much wealth and providing many jobs. Many of these companies co-operate through the Paper Province cluster. As well as many SMEs, global heavyweights have a significant presence here, including Pöyry Kvaerner Pulping, BillerudKorsnäs, Valmet, Stora Enso, Rottneros and Voith. Such companies provide technology, engineering, market pulp or finished paper products (or combinations of these) to global markets. Värmland has a critical mass of world-class companies across the entire value chain, often linked to each other by buyer-supplier relationships. This involves a massive network of actors: first and second tier suppliers providing products and services to the big pulp and paper producers.
