20 February 2014

The Danish Innovation Networks have in the previous four-year period, undergone a rapid development. The number of companies participating in the 22 Innovation Networks has more than doubled since 2010, reaching 7,000 companies in 2013. The number of companies that have developed new products, processes or services as a result of participation in network activities, has grown even faster - from 320 in 2010 to 870 in 2012.

With the new Network landscape the positive trend is expected to continue in the coming years. Of the 22 allocated Innovation Networks, 6 are new and 18 are existing networks. The new networks focus on advanced production and materials, health care and finance IT. While the existing networks cover other Danish strongholds such as energy, environment, food, ICT and transport.

In Denmark's new Cluster Strategy from 2013, the ambition is that Danish clusters and Innovation Networks should be further professionalised and internationalised in the coming years. The goal is to have ten Danish clusters with Cluster Management Excellence Label GOLD, up from five at present.

Furthermore, The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation supports the internationalisation of Danish clusters by offering international cluster matchmaking events -in collaboration with the Baltic Sea Region - and cluster-to-cluster collaboration projects. So far, Danish Clusters have been engaged in more than 50 international collaboration projects involving clusters from 25 countries via the Innovation Express funding scheme.

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Danish cluster support organisation Netmatch welcome policy makers and cluster organisations from other countries that are interested in cluster collaboration.
