The Kompetenznetze Deutschland, initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, brings together the best-performing innovation clusters in Germany. The currently 97 networks are structured in 9 thematical groups and spread in 8 defined regions within Germany. The topics include all steps of the supply chain and the respective research areas. These networks characteristically stand out for their high level of activity and cooperation. They share commonly formulated goals, are regionally anchored, and excel both in minimizing distance to markets and industry, and in their dynamics and flexibility.
