Description
The Regional Council of Central Finland is a joint municipal authority that aims to promote quality of life and safeguard the well-being throughout the region. Home to over 270 000 inhabitants, Central Finland boasts three major strong points of economic life. It has extensive expertise, world-class businesses and top-level education. Regional Council operates the following spearhead clusters, which together employ 37 800 people and generate 7800 million euros of revenues:
- New Generation Machines and Equipment
- Dynamic Bioenergy
- Developing Housing
The regional center, Jyväskylä, is one of the fastest growing cities in Finland. Its school system, university and research institutions are internationally recognized, a fact reflected in EduCluster Finland, a public/private education business network that makes local expertise services available for international arenas.
Furthermore, the region is also participating in four national cluster programmes: Energy Technology, Ubiquituous Computing, Forest Industry Future and Nanotechnology. Latter is coordinated from from the region.
