Victoria Georgieva,

On November 12, the TCI Latin American Chapter webinar on “Key competences for cluster managers” took place. Two excellent speakers – Joan Martí Estévez, ACCIÓ, Cataluña and Beatriz Velasquez, Business Tourism Cluster, Colombia shared with the attendees their wide knowledge on the topic.

With the great moderation of Luis Oliver Torres, TCI Latin American Chapter coordinator, interesting and very important questions were covered,

  • What are the main features of a Cluster Manager?
  • What skills should a successful Cluster Manager have?
  • How important is it for a Cluster Manager to be an expert or to at least know the Cluster sector s/he will be managing?

Beatriz Velasquez pointed out that the Cluster Manager should be a multitasking CEO who generates trust and helps improving the cooperation; a strategic leader with the capacity of being a mediator.

On the other hand, Joan Martí specified that there is the need of understanding very well the social challenges. The Cluster Manager is supposed to know well the new advanced technologies, with a focus on social economy changes. He also stressed on the importance for a Cluster manager to have a strategic vision, being able to foresee the future of his sector.

During the webinar we learnt also that the good cluster managers need to be:

  • Creative,
  • Innovative,
  • Decision makers who have networking skills,
  • Flexible to adapt with the capacity to manage and solve complex problems.
