Örjan Sölvell

Dr Örjan Sölvell has been a teacher and researcher at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) for 35 years, and is Professor of International Business. Since 2005 he is the Director of the Center for Strategy and Competitiveness at SSE. Since 2001 he is a Senior Associate at Professor Michael E. Porter’s Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness (ISC) at Harvard Business School, and since 2008 Fellow of the European International Business Academy. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the TCI Network. Since the early 2000s he has worked with the European Commission, DG Enterprise and Industry, on cluster policy, and is heading the Cluster Observatory, set up in 2007. In 2001-2002 Dr Sölvell created a new course together with Dr Christian Ketels and Professor Porter: Microeconomics of Competitiveness: Firms, Clusters and Economic Development (MOC), today taught at HBS and some 80 universities around the world. Dr Sölvell has published extensively in the areas of: Strategy Innovation, Clusters, Competitiveness and Micro Policy.
